Field Poppies
(Papaver rhoes)
It would be fair to describe poppies as being one of the worlds' most successful "weeds". Poppies have followed the spread of farming around the globe so completely that it is impossible to be certain of their original home. By hitching a ride in seed-corn poppies probably arrived in Britain way back, when Neolithic farmers first settled here.
