Dandelion, April, North York Moors, England

Dandelion
(Taraxacum spp.)

A conscientious gardener would raise their hands in despair at the sight of dandelions appearing in their carefully tended lawn. However, this innocent little weed has more to offer than a first glance may reveal. More than 200 species of dandelion have been recognised in Britain and it can be used in many ways. An old myth that merely touching dandelions will make you wet the bed is untrue. But it has been long recognised and used as a herbal laxative and diuretic.
