Beech Wood
(Fagus sylvatica)
In ages past beech was looked upon purely as a source of firewood, but began to be valued for its aesthetic appeal, and as useful timber, during the eighteenth century. From then on it became a popular landscapers' addition to parks and commons. No doubt appreciated for its rugged appearance when mature and its splendid autumn colours.
