Blue Water-lily
(Nympaea nouchali caerulea)

This beautiful plant is common throughout Botswana's Okavango Delta, wherever permanent water or seasonal pans can be found. You may be wondering why it looks pink, well, although it is called "blue" it also occurs in shades of mauve, pink (as here) and yellow with no hint of blue at all. This lily is an integral part of the Delta's ecosystem and many insects use the nectar produced by the flowers.
