Crab Spider
(Thomisidae)

Crab spiders can hardly be called active hunters. They will hide themselves among flowers and vegetation waiting patiently, sometimes for days, until suitable prey comes along. Their long front legs are opened like a giant trap that springs shut to immediately grasp their victims.

Although often extravagantly coloured crab spiders can adapt their markings to suit their surroundings - a process that takes a few days to complete. Being somewhat slow movers they will make good use of camouflage techniques, and will move round to the far side of leaves or petals when a potential predator is near by.
