Giant Tachinid Fly
(Tachina grossa)
As befits its name, the giant tachinid fly is one of the largest species of fly throughout most of Western Europe. In some parts of Europe there are two generations of this fly per year, but in the UK there is usually only one. One is more than enough if you are a particular type of caterpillar, the type favoured to have eggs laid on you, the larvae of which then develop inside and eat you alive.
