Pearly Heath
(Coenonympha arcania)

The delightful pearly heath is a butterfly that is usually found on well-drained grassy slopes and along the margins of open woodland. It is a common butterfly that is widespread throughout southern and central Europe. Although it is usually spotted at lower levels this butterfly is just at home at higher altitudes and will happily fly around at up to 2000 metres above sea level.
