Blackbird
(Turdus merula)
Blackbirds have spread from their original woodland and woodland edge habitats and now happily breed in gardens and parks in towns and cities, as well as extensively throughout farmland. They will explore open grassy areas such as lawns, stopping frequently and listening for the sound of their main prey - worms. Having found one blackbirds will often wait patiently, listening for more as worms are often found in clusters. Blackbirds also find berries to be a tasty treat and will happily leave their preferred ground-feeding habits behind to pick off a portion of juicy ripe fruit.
