Lapwings are back! The winter seems to have had a tail longer than Hayley's Comet and the natural ebb and flow of nature has adapted accordingly. In 2012 I spotted my first lapwings of the year on 2nd Jan. This year their return to upper moorland was noticeably delayed. However, when they did finally turn up it was a case of immediately getting on with the show and the sky was soon decorated with paired up birds screeching continuously, while trying to impress one another with their exceptional aerial agility.
